Ask Question
Textbox user confusion
Title:
B

{code}
?
When using the textbox or autocomplete controls as part of a grid search, I have some test users getting confused about what to do after typing text. Other controls, like multi-lookup, have a defined action to initiate a search, like clicking the Ok button. However the text search does not and the user must either press enter (confusing on mobile) or move to another field. Also, there isn't a "text search" control, like a text box with an hourglass icon on the right, in the tool kit that I found. What do you suggest?

when you bind grid to Parents, the grid will reload on parent change (for textbox on enter or leave, for lookup/dropdown selecting an item) if you set .LoadOnParentChange(false) you will have to trigger the load yourself using api $grid.data('api').load() (on btn click for example, or keyup) you can also set this individually per parent .Parent(id, alias, bool loadOnChange) for instant (live search) for textboxes you can bind on 'keyup' like we do in the client data grid demos have a look here: http://demo.aspnetawesome.com/GridDemo, try experimenting with "Load on parent change" checked and unchecked; also with "use remote data" adding icons next to inputs can be done using css
