Progress bar to the grid

How do I attach a modal progress window to a grid? I want it to appear while the grid items load. Of course the grid display a small progress bar to indicate that the items are loading, but it doesn't prevent the user from clicking any buttons.

there's a demo for this in the latest version (4.0) http://demo.aspnetawesome.com/GridNoRecordsFoundCustomLoadingDemo, it uses the awebeginload and aweload grid events
