Autocomplete - Using a Value Not in the List

I have a form with an autocomplete, but I want the user to also have the ability to submit a value that's not in the list. Is there a way to do that?

yes, the autocomplete is a textbox with autocomplete applied to it, the user can just type in something, it's not mandatory to select a value from the list
