Error handling when editing/creating item in a grid

Hello, I used the Mvc5MinSetup solution from your web site. I try to implement an error handling for the function "public ActionResult Edit(DinnerInput input)". If an error occurs (for example access to db have a problem), I would like to close the window "Edit/Create" and make an new window appearing with the error msg. How can I do this feature ? Thanks a lot.

  in the post action for the PopupForm if you return a string, the popup content will be replaced with that string, if you return a json object, the popup will close, and the success func will be executed with that object as a parameter so, to do it exactly the way you want, you would have to initialize the Popup('masterMsg') in _Layout.cshtml @Html.Awe().InitPopup().Name("masterMsg") return in the edit/create post actions a json object with the error object if (error) return Json(new { Error = errmsgstr }); edit utils.js, make itemEdited and itemCreated funcs handle res.Error (open the popup with the error message) itemEdited: function (gridId) { return function (item) { if (item.Error) awe.open('masterMsg', { c: item.Error }); // this line was added, same for itemCreated

  • thanks for you answer. I am quite in developping with Awesome grid. Could you please provide me the code detail for : - intializing the Popup in _Layout - the Json function must be --Json(new { Error = "demo error" })-- ? - the function itemEdited and itemCreated funcs in utils.js.   • Thanks it is working fine for Created/Edited/Deleted object; it means it is working for : -public ActionResult Create(DinnerInput input) -public ActionResult Edit(DinnerInput input) -public ActionResult Delete(DeleteConfirmInput input) Now I still need to implement the same process for : - public ActionResult GridGetItems(GridParams g, string search) - public ActionResult Edit(int id) = the function that create the dialog - public ActionResult Delete(int id, string gridId) Could you give me some advice / code sample to do some kind of error handling ? Thanks.

  • for all other unexpected errors, you could try setting awe.err, have a look at the main demo Site.js, you'll see awe.err = function (o, xhr, textStatus, errorThrown); you can use the popup to display the error message xhr.responseText
